This has to be my most favorite sensory project that we’ve explored so far! It was very easy to color the oats and although the kids threw them everywhere they were not sticky and easy to clean up. The texture is also really awesome. I couldn’t help but play in them myself!
I used the oatmeal I keep on hand which is rolled oats but very small oats. Next time I do this I will use a different brand of oats that are larger.
You will need:
- 4 cups of Oatmeal
- food coloring
- 2 tbs of water per cup of oats
- cup or bowl for mixing
Basically you need just enough water to get the oats wet but not soak them (2 tbs water per cup of oats) . I tried two ways of mixing the ingredients with very little difference. First I added water and food coloring then oats. Then I added food coloring and water to the oats and mixed.
I put the colored oats on napkins and let the oats dry for about 2 hours.
And there you have it!
