I’m soooo excited to share this new discovery of mine! I’ve been looking for months for a diaper cream/lotion that has oatmeal in it. Oatmeal baths have been so handy for diaper rashes in our home and I wanted to have something to use that was cloth safe to prevent and to keep the pesky rashes away! I finally found it! And why I couldn’t have come up with this on my own is ridiculous!!! Either way I finally found a recipe and it’s fabulous!!!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup ground oatmeal
- 12 oz of coconut oil
- 2 tbs olive oil
First I threw the olive oil and coconut oil into a sauce pan on low heat.
Then I threw the uncooked oatmeal into my handy dandy baby bullet! I used the grinding blade that came with it!
In a short time it grinded my oats into a fine powder!!
I threw everything into a mason jar and mixed it up! Then I put it into the refrigerator to cool and harden. About once an hour I went in and restart it as the powder would fall to the bottom.
Ta da!!! Finally the lotion/ diaper cream of my dreams!! I’ve been putting it on my sons rashy face and in one day it looks so much better! He gets his sensitive skin for both mom and dad!
So I think I will elaborate on why these ingredients are sooooo encredible!
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is one of the few natural ingredients to receive recognition from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Oatmeal contains both anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties which is ideal for sensitive skin and to treat a variety of skin disorders (i.e sunburns, eczema, poison ivy, rashes, and dry skin).
Olive Oil
Olive oil contains three major antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. Unlike commercial moisturizers that can clog pores and exacerbate current skin conditions, olive oil penetrates deeply into the skin while providing a cleansing effect.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil also is able to penetrate your skin on a deeper level than your average product because of its low molecular weight and the way it bonds with proteins. The saturated fats that helps the skin stay moisturized. Coconut oil contains Capric, Caprylic, and Lauric acid. These three fatty acids have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties. As a result, when applied on the skin, coconut oil protects from microbial infections that can get into open wounds or even enter the body through the pores. This microbial action can be experienced even if coconut oil is taken internally, as the fatty acids boost the immunity when converted to monocaprins and monolaurins.
So with these three amazing ingredients how can you go wrong!?!
Dont know how much this matters…. but 1/2 cup oatmeal then ground, or 1/2 cup pre ground oatmeal?…… btw, I suffer from dry skin and allergy induced excema. I am hoping this will work for me!
