Oatmeal baths aren’t just for eczema

I’m not really sure why this is just hitting my blog. I discovered this helpful trick shortly after C was born. It’s easy, inexpensive, and it leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized.

All you need:

  • Unflavored oatmeal (The less processed it is the better it will work but you can use instant)
  • A bathtub, sink, or large bucket depending on who is bathing
  • A sock 
  • Water

Researchers say that oatmeal produces antioxidants and that is what gives oatmeal its soothing ability.

There is absolutely no need to go to the store and buy some premade oatmeal bath mixture. 

Simply go into your kitchen and grab some of your flavorless oatmeal that’s in your cupboard. 
You can either put it directly into the sock or you can grind it up. I honestly haven’t noticed a big difference so I normally just put the oats directly into my sock.  I tie a knot in the leg part of the sock.  I then throw the sock into the bath and get the water running. 

The water will become cloudy or milky and that’s great!

You then can take the sock and a squeeze it. That will push out the goodness and then you can rub the sock all over the body or affect area. 

Let the kids play in the oatmeal water or let yourself soak for 15-20 min. And tada!! 

It’s been such a Great tool to combat this newborn dry skin mister T has had. And C   has only had one diaper rash that was too tough for the powerful oatmeal bath! But none the less I’m sure it felt good to sit in it. 

Oatmeal is like my coconut oil. I just can’t get enough of it!
